However, Mercedes-AMG has announced that the new limited-edition GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is the final AMG GT3 variant powered by the 6.3-liter V-8, and it certainly feels like we’re losing a loved one.

The special edition marks 130 years since the brand first began racing with a Daimler-licensed engine. The anniversary dates back to July 22, 1894, when a Daimler engine scored its first victory in a race from Paris to Rouen about 90 miles away.

Because it wasn’t bogged down by the constraints of a racing series, AMG was really able to turn up the wick on the special edition. The naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V-8 is free-flowing with the competition air restrictor removed and a special exhaust equipped.

Power output rises to 671 horsepower at 7250 rpm and 538 pound-feet of torque at 5250 rpm, making the Edition 130Y, according to AMG, the most powerful GT3 variant it has ever built. The competition car generally produces around 550 horsepower but varies based on regulations. Power is transmitted through a sequential six-speed racing transmission mounted to the rear axle and connected to the engine via a carbon fiber tube.

AMG didn’t just fiddle with the power. A set of carbon-ceramic brakes replaces the steel discs required by GT3 regulations, helping to shed weight from the special edition. Downforce has been increased by around 15 percent compared to the race car thanks to a new front splitter, louvers in the front fenders, and redesigns for the side skirts, underbody, and a rear diffuser that looks capable of committing acts of war.

The wing fixed to the rear of the car could seat six for dinner with room to spare, but Mercedes says it optimizes the aero balance. Of course, you won’t want any dinner dishes set on the wing when the drag reduction system goes into effect. A button on the steering wheel flattens the wing while simultaneously extending the active aero on the front of the car to maintain balance. Lateral acceleration or deceleration switches both elements back to their standard attack position. Speaking of lateral acceleration, the special edition is fitted with adjustable traction control and racing ABS to keep you out of trouble.

Safety hasn’t been overlooked either, with the Edition 130Y coming with the same equipment as the race car, including a carbon fiber safety cell bolted to the chassis, a five-point harness, safety nets, a steel roll cage, a fire suppression system, a motorsport safety fuel tank, and an emergency hatch.

Owners of the GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport get more than the car and some pretty sweet bragging rights. They also get a custom car cover and a full suite of race equipment designed in partnership with Puma. According to Mercedes, each buyer gets a personalized racing suit, gloves, racing underwear, and shoes that match the exterior of the car, along with a customized Bell helmet and personalized bag to fly all your gear to racetracks around the world. Production is being limited to just 13 units for the whole world, with pricing starting at an astounding $1,135,642 at today’s conversion rates.
